Ashlyn Riggs, a senior in 成人直播 State University鈥檚 Early Childhood Unified Education program, is not only pursuing her dream of becoming a teacher but also living it daily. Hailing from Cheney, Kansas, Ashlyn is part of WSU鈥檚 innovative Teacher Apprentice Program (TAP), which allows her to gain real-world experience while advancing her education.
As the Lead Substitute Teacher at WSU鈥檚 Child Development Center (CDC), Ashlyn steps into the shoes of lead teachers when they鈥檙e absent, working with children ranging from birth to Pre-K. 鈥淚 love being able to be part of a program that works around my work schedule so I can gain on-the-job experience while also taking classes at my own convenience,鈥� she shares.
From a young age, Ashlyn knew she wanted to teach. She fondly recalls bribing her younger siblings to play 鈥渟chool,鈥� where she would take on the role of their teacher. Her passion for education carried her through high school, where she graduated as valedictorian of her class. Now, through her role at the CDC, Ashlyn is deepening her skills in classroom management, lesson planning, and leadership鈥攅ssentials for any aspiring educator.
鈥淭he Teacher Apprentice Program has given me an incredible amount of experience so far,鈥� Ashlyn says. 鈥淚鈥檝e gained knowledge in the teaching profession, the skills needed to manage a classroom, and how to develop and implement lesson plans for various age groups.鈥�
With plans to continue growing her career in education, Ashlyn is already making an impact through her dedication to her work and passion for helping young children thrive.
For Ashlyn, the journey to becoming a teacher is just beginning, and her hands-on experience at WSU is giving her the tools to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
